Pole dancing is an athletic sport that really deserves to have a place in the Olympic family of sports.
It is no longer just a strippers activity for nightclubs. It is not for no reason that the X-Pole Sport is the best selling pole dancing pole in the world. X-Pole knew what tey were doing when they named it.
You can read a full news article about it here but my personal opinion is that if beach volleyball can become a sport purely because blokes can sit at home and oggle bikini babes on the television as they grunt and throw themselves around then surely a sport that was deigned to be oggled has a right to be there?
If you really are really not sure if pole dancing deserves to be in the olympics then I very strongly suggest that you take a look at the video above. It is clearly a proper rigorous activity requiring skills – plus it will make for great television – unlike for example the walking events!!!!
There will clearly need to be sets of rules and methods of giving scores – just like there is in the ice skating – there is even the potential for pairs events or co-ordinated poledancing similar to the synchronised swimming events.
I don’t expect it to be n the Olympics for a few years but it could well be in there at some point – after all who would have predicted that BMX riding would have been in there? After all that was only really popular for a brief period in the 1980s butthe campaign to get it into the Olympic Sport family carried enough momentum to place it there 15 years later.
Maybe the same will go for the poledancing as a Pole sport.
